Description

Strathblane, Stirlingshire born outside left Bill Kinghorn began his football career with Milngavie Juniors and played for Adamslie before joining Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in 1932. From there he joined Pollok in 1934 before signing for amateur Scottish First Division club Queen’s Park in 1936, making his Scottish League debut at Aberdeen in September 1936. From January 1937 he became a regular in The Spiders’ first eleven, and scored 15 goals in 56 appearances for them, winning 3 Scottish Amateur caps that year in matches against England, Wales and Ireland before being signed by First Division Liverpool in May 1938.

He made his Football League debut against Chelseas that August, sharing the left wing position with South African winger Herman Van Den Berg, scoring 4 goals in 19 appearances for The Reds in what proved to be the final peacetime season before the Second World War. During the War he guested for Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Leeds United (for whom he made two wartime league appearances in September 1942), Burnley (in August 1944) and Blackburn Rovers (in April 1945), and he also played for South Liverpool in 1945 but had retired from playing by the time peacetime football recommenced in 1946.
