Description
William Allen Lambie, like his older brother, John Lambie, was a teenage discovery for Queen’s Park where he won a Scottish Cup runners up medal in 1892 and a winner’s medal in 1893 when Queen’s Park beat Celtic 2-1. Besides a brief 3 game spell at Second Division club Ardwick, soon to be re-named Manchester City, in the autumn of 1892, when he made his Football League debut and scored once in a 4-2 win at Walsall Town Swifts in September 1892, he remained with Queen’s Park until 1900. He is credited with scoring 32 goals in 51 Cup ties for The Spiders, including 4 goals as they won the Merchants’ Charity Cup Final in a replay win over Northern in May 1891, and a hat-trick in a Glasgow Cup win over Third Lanark in October 1895.
He then had a spell with Hamilton Academical and played a single Football League match for Burnley in a 0-0 draw with Burton United in the Second Division in October 1901. He won a total of 9 caps for Scotland between 1892, when he made his international debut, scoring in a 3-2 win over Ireland at The Solitude, Belfast, and April 1897, scoring 5 goals including two against The Auld Enemy.
He was the younger brother of Scotland international John Lambie.
