Description

Cefn Mawr, Wrexham born wing half Eddie Lawrence began his career with Druids United in 1924 before joining Wrexham in 1925, for whom he made his Football League debut against Durham City in April 1926. Primarily a fringe player at Wrexham, he transferred to Second Division Clapton Orient in the summer of 1928 after 21 appearances. Although they were relegated in his first season he continued to play for them until 1931, when he was signed by Notts County after scoring twice in 133 appearances for the East Londoners.

He won his first cap for Wales while at Clapton Orient on 1st February 1930 against Ireland in Belfast in the famous Joe Bambrick match, and his second and last cap against Scotland in a 3-2 defeat at Wrexham on 31st October 1931 by when he was at Notts County.

He had five seasons at Meadow Lane but lost his place in 1935 after they were relegated and only made 11 more appearances in his final season, having scored twice in 143 appearances for The Magpies. He then spent 1935-36 at Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic scoring once in 43 appearances before returning to Clapton Orient in the 1936 close season making 24 appearances.

He then played for non league Players Athletic in 1938 and returned to Notts County in 1939 without making another appearance before the Second World War. After the War he played for Midland League club Grantham in 1946 before his eventual retirement.
