Description

Penrhiwceiber, Rhondda born right back Sid Lawrence began his football career with Penrhiwceiber from where he signed for Second Division Swansea Town in July 1930 and made his debut for Swansea at Southampton in February 1931. He soon established himself in The Swans’ first team and missed only one match for the club in 1931-32, and he won his first cap for Wales in December 1931 when selected in a defeat to Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast, winning 7 more caps for Wales until his final cap against Scotland in October 1935.

He was a near ever present for Swansea over his nine seasons at The Vetch Field, all of which were in the Second Division, and made 327 appearances, scoring 11 goals, for The Swans, eventually losing his regular place in their line up in early 1939 before signing that summer for Swindon Town whose manager was former Swansea Town manager Neil Harris, just as peacetime football was about to be abandoned with the outbreak of the Second World War, which effectively ended his career. By the time football was suspended in September 1939, he had played once for Swindon, and made a further 11 appearances, scoring twice, for The Robins in wartime league and cup football. After the War he joined non league Haverfordwest Athletic before his eventual retirement.
