A regular in The Mariners’ line up over the next two seasons, he joined Midland League side Worksop Town in August 1923 after 5 goals in 55 appearances for Grimsby, before joining York City in the summer of 1925.
Such was his form at Bootham Crescent that Second Division Nottingham Forest signed him in September 1926, and he scored once in 7 appearances for Forest during 1926-27 but failed to establish himself at The City Ground and joined Southport in June 1927. He missed only three matches during his two seasons at Haig Avenue, scoring 11 goals in 87 appearances for The Sandgrounders before joining Cheshire League Macclesfield in July 1929.
During the 1929-30 season he was the only player to be ever present for The Silkmen scoring on his debut and making a useful contribution of 18 goals in 54 appearances in a season when the team amassed a total of 181 goals in all competitions. He gained a Cheshire Senior Cup winners’ medal with Macclesfield in 1930 before moving to Ashton National for the majority of the 1930-31 season. He then returned to Macclesfield for the 1931-32 season, but could not establish himself in the team only making three further appearances, scoring twice. He was released by The Silkmen and signed for Chorley in July 1932, his final club before his eventual retirement.
