Description

Northwich, Cheshire born right back Jack Lees had joins Northwich Victoria in 1914 prior to the First World War, and during the War he appeared in wartime football for Liverpool in 1916-17, but after the conflict he signed for First Division club Preston North End, making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue in December 1919. He made 23 appearances for The Lambs that season but only 11 more in 1920-21 and none in 1921-22, before moving to Halifax Town in the summer of 1922, soon establishing himself as their first choice right back. During his eight seasons in Yorkshire he made 266 appearances for The Shaymen, all in Division Three (North), scoring once on Christmas Eve 1927 in a 4-1 defeat of Wrexham. When he retired in the summer of 1930 he was already aged nearly 38.
