Sheffield, Yorkshire born left half Harry Linley began his football career with Silverwood Colliery from where he joined Second Division club Huddersfield Town in 1913, making his Football League debut against Birmingham in October 1913. He became a regular in The Terriers’ final two seasons, scoring his only goal in a draw with Fulham in February 1915, before the onset of the First World War forced the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915.
After the War he was a fringe player and played 5 times in their 1920 promotion, with 3 top flight matches in autumn 1920 the last of his 51 matches for Huddersfield Town and he joined Third Division (North) club Halifax Town in 1921, spending a single season at The Shay, scoring once in 22 matches before his retirement.
