South Hylton, Sunderland born right half and sometime outside right Billy Lloyd began his football career with Jarrow in 1905 before signing for First Division Sheffield Wednesday, making his Football League debut against Bury in December 1906. Despite playing in around half of Wednesday’s games in 1908-09, the only season when he mostly played at outside right, and 1909-10, he was never assured of a first team place and during seven seasons at Hillsborough managed only 84 appearances, scoring 6 goals. He moved to Midland League club Rotherham County in 1913, and returned to Wednesday for 1914-15, being on their books without making another first team appearance, but the onset of the First World War, during which he served in the Armed Forces, and the suspension of peacetime football brought an end to his career.
