Market Drayton, Shropshire born left half Harry Lockett began his football career with Wilmslow in 1904 and played for Whitchurch in 1905 before joining Crewe Alexandra in 1906 and playing for hometown club Market Drayton in 1907. In March 1908 he joined First Division Bolton Wanderers, making his Football League debut against Newcastle United in September 1909. He scored 4 goals in 16 appearances during the 1909-10 season but Bolton were relegated at the season end and Lockett left the club, joining Nottingham Forest.
At Forest Lockett scored 5 goals in 23 appearances but suffered a successive top flight relegation at the end of the 1910-11 season, whereupon he joined Southern League Exeter City. He made his Southern League debut in a goalless draw at Watford in September 1911, and eventually ended the season with six goals in 34 Southern League appearances. The following season he missed just two matches for Exeter but left St James’ Park in the summer of 1913, signing for Chesterfield Town after 6 goals in 70 appearances for The Grecians.
After the First World War, Lockett returned to Football League action with Stalybridge Celtic after they were elected to the Third Division (North) in 1921. He played both League seasons with Celtic until their resignation from the League, scoring once in 77 appearances. Already by now in his late 30’s, he retired soon after.
