Description

Right half Colin Mainds was a rare example of a Catholic footballer who played for Glasgow Rangers, for whom he made his Rangers debut against Falkirk at Ibrox in August 1906, having been signed from Port Glasgow Athletic. On New Year’s Day 1907, Rangers fielded three Catholics (Mainds, Willie Kivlichan, and Archie Kyle) against Celtic at Ibrox. They won 2-1, Kivlichan scoring the winner. Scoring his only Rangers goal in a 2-0 win at former club Port Glasgow a week after his debut, he made 15 appearances before joining Southern League Reading in 1907.
