Description

Wednesbury, Staffordshire born centre half Billy Malpass began his football career with Wednesbury Old Athletic in 1890 from where he signed for Football League club Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1891, making his Football League debut at West Bromwich Albion that September. He soon became a regular performer in Wolves’ first eleven, and in 1892-93 he played in all 6 FA Cup ties as Wolves won the 1893 FA Cup Final, beating Everton 1-0 at Fallowfield in the Final with a goal from their captain, Harry Allen.

Three years later Malpass was a near ever present for Wolves missing only two League matches as Wolves again reached the FA Cup Final, however they were beaten 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday at The Crystal Palace. Malpass lost his place in Wolves’ line up from the start of the 1897-98 campaign and although he regained it for a spell between December and March, he made only 5 further appearances in 1898-99, playing his final game at Bolton Wanderers in October 1898 before retiring, having scored 9 goals in 155 appearances for Wolves.
