Description

Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire born left back George Maltby began his football career with Notts Rangers in 1904 and signed for First Division Nottingham Forest in August 1905, making his Football League debut after their relegation at the end of 1905-06 in a Second Division match against Leeds City in September 1906. He was a near ever present in 1906-07 as Forest immediately returned to the top flight, winning the Second Division Championship, and he missed very few of their matches over the next four seasons in the First Division, being ever present in 1909-10 and missing only two games the following season, which ended in relegation.

He spent three further seasons at Nottingham Forest but was increasingly a fringe player and only started 5 games in 1913-14, playing his last match of 230 for them at Stockport County in April 1914, having scored 3 times for the club. He joined Midland League club Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 1914 and retired with the onset of the First World War,
