Description

Cornsay Colliery, County Durham born full back Arthur Mason played for Cornsay Colliery Welfare in 1922, joining Craghead United in 1923, and West Stanley in 1924 before joining Third Division Reading in 1925. He made his Football League debut at Millwall in March 1926, making 5 appearances in the run in to their Third Division (South) Championship and promotion. However Mason played only once the following season in the Second Division before joining Norwich City in the 1927 close season. He spent 2 seasons at The Nest but played only 4 games per season before moving back to the north east to join Hartlepools United in the 1929 close season. He remained largely a fringe player, making 10 appearances during his debut season and only 9 appearances over the following 2 seasons before he joined non league Crook Town in 1932. He joined Annfield Plain in 1933, and played for Cornsay Colliery Welfare in 1934, Thorne Colliery in 1935, Blackhall Colliery Welfare in 1936 and Hesleden Rising Star in 1937 before retiring.
