Description

Church Gresley, Derbyshire born outside right George Mason began his football career with Frickley Colliery in 1914 but after the First World War he was signed by newly incorporated Leeds United in November 1919, in the wake of the demise of Leeds City. When Leeds United joined The Second Division in 1920, Mason made his Football League debut in their first match at Port Vale that August and was their first choice right winger in Leeds’ inaugural League season,

He vied with Walter Coates for the right wing position in their second season, but in the third he was eventually edged out by Alan Noble, playing his final game for Leeds on Boxing Day 1922. In June 1923 he moved to Swindon Town after 6 goals in 66 appearances for United, but he made only one appearance for The Robins’ first team in a defeat to Reading in October 1923 and they released him in May 1924, with Mason joining Midland League club Mexborough Town that summer, his final known club.
