Description

Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent born right half back Alf Massey began his football career with Caversall Old Boys and played for Cheshire League club Congleton Town in 1937, from where he joined hometown First Division club Stoke City in 1938, making his Football League debut at Manchester United in January 1939, also playing in a home draw with Blackpool the next month. At the start of the new season he played in all three matches of the new 1939-40 season against Charlton Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough before the outbreak of the Second World War a day after his final match forced the abandonment of peacetime football. After the War, Massey played for Stafford Rangers before his eventual retirement.
