Worksop, Nottinghamshire born left back Bob McCall joined hometown Midland League club Worksop Town in 1934 before making the move to professional status with Second Division club Nottingham Forest in February 1935. He made his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue in February 1936 but initially was a fringe player, making his breakthrough into regular first team football from September 1938, and his 32 appearances that season were fairly evenly split between right half, right back and centre forward, where he was playing when he scored his only goal in peacetime football for Forest in a 3-0 win over Millwall at The City Ground in March 1939.
However his career was soon interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, which forced the abandonment of peacetime football. After the War, he resumed with Nottingham Forest and played almost exclusively at left back, becoming club captain and playing regularly until 1950, remaining with the club despite their relegation in 1949. He played his last match for Forest at Brentford in September 1951, his first match since April 1950, before returning to Worksop Town in 1952 after one goal in 175 appearances during his peacetime career with Nottingham Forest.
