Description

Redding, Stirlingshire born inside or outside right Murdo McDonald began his football career with Grange Rovers after the end of the First World War and played for St Ninian’s Thistle in 1920 from where he joined Scottish League club Cowdenbeath in 1921, He signed for Bo’ness in 1922 before joining Glasgow Rangers in 1923 but he didn’t make The Gers’ first eleven and returned to Bo’ness in 1924.

In 1926 he was signed by Second Division club Reading making his Football League debut at Barnsley that September and he was part of The Royals’ team that reached the FA Cup semi final, losing to eventual winners Cardiff City at Molineux in March 1927. McDonald lost his place in Reading’s line up in April 1929 and joined Brighton & Hove Albion in March 1930 after 16 goals in 76 matches for The Royals. But he was never a regular at The Goldstone and again re-joined Bo’ness in 1931 after a single goal in 10 matches for The Seagulls. He had a spell in Irish League football the same year with Bray Unknowns before a return to Bo’ness in 1932, where he played out his career.
