Description

Wilmslow, Cheshire born goalkeeper Jimmy McGann began his football career with Wilmslow from where he was signed by Third Division (North) club Stockport County in 1929, making his Football League debut against York City in February 1930 replacing George Crowther, but Billy Richardson then took over the gloves as County finished runners up in the division and missed out on promotion. McGann had to wait until November 1931 for his next opportunity when he replaced regular keeper Tommy Gale, but McGann won the gloves from Gale in December 1932 and helped Stockport finish third in the division for two successive seasons.

After 58 matches for Stockport County he joined Reading in the 1934 close season, but was understudy to Percy Whittaker and played only 16 matches for The Royals between Christmas Day and the end of the season before joining Midland League club Scarborough in 1935, his final known club.
