Paisley, Renfrewshire born right back Willie McGinnigle started with Cambuslang Rangers before the intervention of the First World War, during which he served with The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and was awarded the 1914-15 Star, The British War Medal and the The Victory Medal. He joined Scottish League club Hibernian in 1918, making his Scottish League debut that August against Glasgow Celtic, before briefly joining Celtic on loan in September 1918, playing for them in a single match against Third Lanark at the end of September.
McGinnigle played for Hibernian for the next eleven years and played for Hibs in the Scottish Cup Final of 1923, which they lost to Celtic 1-0, and of 1924, which they lost 2-0 to Airdrieonians. McGinnigle played in the Home Scots v Anglo-Scots international trial match in 1923, but wasn’t selected for Scotland, however he represented The Scottish League in a 3-0 win over The Irish League at Tynecastle in October 1924. After scoring 4 goals in 333 appearances McGinnigle moved to Irish League club Coleraine in 1929, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
