Description

Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire born outside right Andrew McGregor started his football career with hometown club Wishaw Thistle from where he joined Football League club Notts County in 1890, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers that September. He was an ever present during his debut season and scored 4 goals in an FA Cup victory over Sheffield United the following January, and played as Notts County made it to the FA Cup Final, where they were beaten by Blackburn Rovers at The Kennington Oval.

For unknown reasons he was completely absent during their 1891-92 campaign but returned to play most of The Magpies’ matches in 1892-93, and after 16 goals in 51 matches he joined non league Notts Rovers in 1893, his last recorded club.

NB the reference to Birmingham in the image is a bit of a mystery, of course at the time Birmingham (City) were known as Small Heath.
