Govan, Glasgow born centre half Bob McGregor joined Morton after the First World War, making his Scottish League debut in 1919 and most famously being part of the Morton team that won The Scottish Cup in 1922, when they beat Glasgow Rangers 1-0 in the Final at Hampden Park with a goal from Jimmy Gourlay, still the only major trophy the club has won in their history. In 1923, McGregor left Scotland to join Bethlehem Steel in the nascent American Soccer League. He played for Bethlehem until 1930, serving as the club’s captain during the last few years with them.During his time with Bethlehem Steel, they won the 1924 American Cup, 1926 National Challenge Cup, two League titles and one League Cup. In 1930, McGregor moved to the Newark Americans playing there for at least one season before his retirement.
