Description

Frank “Felix” McGrogan was successful enough as a junior in early 1930’s Scottish football with Duntocher Hibs, Maryhill Hibernian and Renfrew Juniors to get an opportunity with First Division club Blackburn Rovers in 1935, and he made his Football League debut for Rovers on 12th October 1935, scoring in a 4-1 win over Manchester City. He played 3 more matches in the following weeks, 2 defeats and a draw, before returning to Scotland in 1936 to join Dunfermline Athletic.

He briefly played for Cumbernauld United om 1937 before joining Falkirk and then transferred to Kilmarnock, where he scored on his debut against Motherwell in January 1938 and played until the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, scoring 18 goals in 50 matches for Killy. During the War he also played for Dumbarton between 1940 and 1943, scoring 28 goals in 69 appearances, and also for Third Lanark, but didn’t resume his career once peacetime football resumed.

He was the father of four professional footballers, James, Felix Jr, Joe & Hugh McGrogan, all of whom played for professional football in the 1960’s and 1970’s both north and south of the border.
