Description

Greenock, Renfrewshire born right back Jock McIntyre began his football career with junior club Petershill, where he played right half and was spotted and signed by hometown Scottish League club Greenock Morton. The highlight of his career at Cappielow was winning the 1922 Scottish Cup Final with them, when a Jimmy Gourlay goal defeated Glasgow Rangers in the Final in front of 75,000 at Hampden Park, still the only major trophy in Morton’s history. During his time at Morton, McIntyre also won representative honours when he was selected to represent The Scottish League, playing in a 1-0 defeat to The Football League at Highbury in March 1921.

Like many players of the time McIntyre left Morton in 1924 to play in the nascent American Soccer League and he spent five years with the Boston Soccer Club, scoring 3 goals in 167 appearances, before returning to the other side of the pond to join Irish League club Coleraine as player manager. He remained with Coleraine until 1931, when he returned to the United States and once again played for Boston, by now renamed The Boston Bears, scoring twice in 4 appearances in the autumn of 1931 before retiring from professional football.
