Inverness born left back Frank McKenzie played for The Cameron Highlanders in Army football before joining hometown club Inverness Thistle prior to the First World War, after which he joined Second Division Rotherham County in 1919, making his Football League debut at West Ham United that September. Rarely assured of a first team start, his most productive season came in 1922-23 when he played in 33 matches, and he stayed a further season at Millmoor after County’s relegation in 1923, when he scored 4 goals playing as an emergency centre forward from Christmas 1923 until the end of the season.
Having been refused a benefit match he joined Newport County in the 1924 close season after 86 appearances for Rotherham, where he had two seasons of regular football, making 71 appearances for The Ironsides before joining Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in the summer of 1926. He then moved to Gainsborough Trinity a year later and to Newark Town in 1928 before his eventual retirement.
