Description

Petershill, Glasgow born centre forward Thomas McKenzie played for Petershill in 1902 from where he joined Scottish League Third Lanark in 1903, where he had a good goalscoring record, netting 11 times during the 1903-04 season and also helping his side win the Scottish Cup in 1904-05, when they defeated Glasgow Rangers in a replay at Hampden Park. Such form of course prompted a move to First Division Sunderland in the 1905 close season. He made his Football League debut at Woolwich Arsenal in October 1905 and scored his only goal for The Wearsiders in 8 appearances in a 2-1 win over Everton on 21st November. But he was surplus to requirements at Roker Park and moved to Southern League Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 1906.

McKenzie was virtually ever present after arriving in Plymouth and scored 10 goals in just 27 games, but left to join Portsmouth in February 1907, primarily because of financial problems at Home Park. He stayed at Fratton Park only for the remainder of the 1906-07 campaign and then moved back to Football League action with Glossop in May 1907. However he again failed to make much impression, scoring once in 6 appearances that autumn for The Hillmen. He returned to the Southern League with Queen’s Park Rangers in 1908, joining Brentford in 1909, and finally returned to Scotland in 1910 to join Dunfermline Athletic.
