Description

Govanhill, Glasgow born outside left Chris McNee began his football career with Blantyre Victoria from where he was signed by Scottish League club Hamilton Academical in April 1936, where he quickly impressed with his performances, being selected twice for the Scottish League XI, against the Irish League in Belfast on 1st September 1937,. and against the same opponent in Dublin in March 1938.

In August 1939 Glasgow Rangers secured his services when they parted with £1,550 after 27 goals in 109 matches for The Accies. He appeared in only 4 matches for his new club before the Second World War broke out the next month and he turned out in more than 30 matches the next season, 1939-40. A leg break then out paid to him playing for a while and he joined the Army. He played with Wrexham and Burnley as a wartime guest during the conflict, and when the war was over he returned to Ibrox and with a further 11 games to his name he was released after 3 goals in 14 matches for The Gers. By now in his mid-30s, McNee transferred to Dumbarton for a year in 1948 before being released after 8 matches for The Sons, at which point he retired from football.
