Grassmoor, Chesterfield born left half Tommy Meads played for non league sides Grassmoor Ivanhoe in 1920, Claycross Town in 1921 and later Matlock Town in 1922 before joining Second Division Stockport County in 1923, making his Football League debut at Oldham Athletic that December, playing 120 matches and netting on 21 occasions until March 1927, when he was signed by First Division Huddersfield Town. In 1928 he played in both the FA Cup semi final and replay against Sheffield United, as well as playing 27 times as they finished as League runners up, but wasn’t chosen for the Final, and he joined Reading in October 1928 having scored twice in 42 appearances for The Terriers.
At Elm Park he played 34 games finding the net four times in a single season, before signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the 1929 close season. Between 1929 and 1934 he featured in 189 matches in all competitions scoring on six occasions for The Lilywhites. He left White Hart Lane in 1935 to end his career at Notts County where he played a further 18 matches, scoring twice, after which he moved into non league football playing with Frickley Colliery in 1936, and both Dinnington Athletic and Frickley Colliery in 1937 before retirement.
