Bulwell, Nottinghamshire born winger Georgie Mee started his career at Notts County in August 1919, before moving to Second Division Blackpool on a free transfer in July 1920 without having played a first team game at Meadow Lane. Bill Norman gave Mee his Football League debut on 18th September 1920, replacing Joe Donachie at outside left in a 2-0 victory at Coventry City. He went on to make a further 28 appearances during the 1920-21 campaign, scoring two goals, including the only goal in a victory over Nottingham Forest at Bloomfield Road on 22nd January 1921. Over the next four consecutive seasons (1921-22 to 1924-25), he was an ever-present, with over 200 consecutive matches (195 in the League), a feat which still stands as a club record.
In his second season, 1921-22, he scored seven goals, including the only goal in a victory at Coventry City on 28th January 1922, and both goals in a 2-1 win at home to Nottingham Forest on 4th March. One of them was described as “one of the greatest goals ever seen at Bloomfield Road”. Mee’s final appearance for Blackpool came on 19th December 1925, in a single-goal victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Bloomfield Road.
Mee was transferred to Second Division Derby County along with Jimmy Gill in February 1926 after 22 goals in 230 appearances for The Seasiders, and he played for The Rams until 1932 and made 155 appearances for Derby County, scoring 15 goals, winning promotion to the First Division at the end of his first season at The Baseball Ground. He missed only four matches in 1929-30 as Derby finished as runners up in the League Championship but he lost his regular place in the team at the end of October 1931 and made only one further appearance before joining Burnley in September 1932.
He scored 5 goals in 21 games for The Clarets during 1932-33, and moved to Mansfield Town in July 1933, making 11 appearances for The Stags, playing for non league clubs Morecambe and Great Harwood in 1934, before returning to League action with Accrington Stanley in October 1935, for whom he was a regular over the next three seasons, scoring 10 goals in 119 matches for Stanley, and had a half season with Rochdale, joining them in in July 1938, where he made only 2 appearances before returning to Accrington Stanley in January 1939 where he ended his career scoring 3 goals in a further 21 appearances in his second spell at Peel Park, retiring in the summer of 1939 already aged nearly 40.
Mee was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Bloomfield Road, when it was officially opened by former Blackpool player Jimmy Armfield in April 2006.
He was the older brother of double winning Arsenal manager Bertie Mee, who played for Mansfield Town and played wartime football for Southampton.
