Description

Sunderland born centre half Jack Middleton started his football career with junior clubs Herrington Swifts in 1920 and Lambton Star in 1921 before joining Second Division Leicester City, for whom he made his Football League debut against Bury in April 1923. In 3 seasons at Leicester he struggled to establish himself in the first team, scoring 3 times in 13 appearances, 10 of which came in 1923-24 when he had runs in the team during January and April. In the summer of 1925 he moved to Third Division Queen’s Park Rangers, where he was a regular starter over 2 seasons at the club, scoring 9 goals in 54 appearances before joining non league Aldershot in 1927. When, 5 years later, Aldershot joined The Football League in 1932, Middleton was still a mainstay of their team, and played in their inaugural League fixture against Southend United that August, as well as in their FA Cup run that ended in defeat to Derby County in the 5th round. He played his final match for Aldershot in January 1937, having scored 3 goals in 120 appearances during their time in the Football League.
