Description

Hednesford born outside left Thomas John “Jack” Miller started his football career with Hednesford Town in 1894 before joining First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1895, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers in January 1896. The following season he became a regular at left wing for Wolves as they side enjoyed a good spell in the late 1890’s finishing in the top ten in three seasons running, including a 3rd place finish in the League Championship in 1897-98. The following season was Miller’s best in terms of goalscoring for the club, when he recorded 12 goals in 35 appearances during 1898-99. The early 1900’s saw Wolves finish regularly in mid-table and in 1905 Miller ended his 10-year spell at the club by agreeing to join Staffordshire rivals Stoke. In total Miller had played 269 times for Wolves scoring 49 goals.

At Stoke he played 38 times in 1905-06 scoring five goals and made a further 25 appearances in 1906-07 but Stoke finished bottom of the First Division and were relegated. Miller’s contract was not renewed and he decided to join non league Willenhall, where he finished his playing career.
