Glasgow born left half John Miller played for Renfrew and Yoker Athletic and was signed by St Mirren from Glasgow’s Petershill club in February 1925, and broke into the team in 1929. He was described at the time as “strong and forceful with his earlier knowledge of forward needs, Miller is a mobile, dominating player.” He won his first cap for Scotland against England at Hampden Park in front of 131,00o specators on 28th March 1931 and won a further 4 full international caps over the next three years, with 3 caps coming on Scotland’s 1931 summer European tour against Italy, Switzerland and France, and his final cap a recall three years later when he played against England in a 3-0 defeat at Wembley in April 1934. The same year he reached The Scottish Cup Final with St Mirren where they were beaten by Glasgow Rangers at Hampden Park in front of 113,000 spectators. He retired in April 1939 after 9 goals in 395 matches for St Mirren.
