Description

Rosehearty, Aberdeenshire born right back Johnny Milne began his football career with Rosehearty and played for Fraserburgh in 1932, from where he was signed by Second Division club Plymouth Argyle in May 1933, making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue in January 1935. Very much a fringe player at Home Park, he made 3 appearances in four season before joining Third Division (South) club Southend United in June 1937.

A regular for The Shrimpers over the final two seasons before the outbreak of the Second World War forced the abandonment of peacetime football in September 1939, he scored once, in a 1-1 draw at Queen’s Park Rangers in May 1939, in 77 matches for Southend United, and after the War he returned to Football League action with Barrow in August 1946, making 34 appearances for Barrow in the first post war peacetime season.

It was said of him at the time “There is nothing showy about his right back play which is sound and workmanlike. He is untiring from the kick off till the final whistle.” He joined Oldham Athletic in August 1947 playing 13 matches across the campaign before retiring in the summer of 1948.
