Description

Luton, Bedfordshire born goalkeeper Harry Mingay was actually discovered by Second Division Blackpool when serving with The Royal Army Medical Corps in Blackpool during the First World War, signing for them in February 1919 after the conflict’s resolution. He made his Football League debut against Leeds City in August 1919 and missed only one game for The Seasiders in the first post war peacetime season. He played a further four seasons at Bloomfield Road making 162 appearances for Blackpool before a move to Clapton Orient in August 1924.

However he never played for Orient’s first team, and joined hometown club Luton Town in May 1925. His two seasons at Kenilworth Road saw 29 appearances for The Hatters, but he was released in the summer of 1927. A goalkeeping crisis at Watford – Joe Hewitt and Bill Yates were both injured – led to Mingay’s initial one‐month engagement in November 1927, and similar difficulties brought him back later in March 1928 till the season end, although all his 3 first team appearances were  during his first spell in November and December 1927. He then joined non league Bedford Town in September 1928 retiring from professional football.
