Charlton, London born right back Johnny Mitchell had been with Charlton Athletic for several years during their Kent League and Southern League days and when Charlton joined The Football League, Mitchell played in their inaugural League match against Exeter City in August 1921. He made 16 appearances for The Addicks that season before finishing his football career.
