Preston, Lancashire born outside right Tommy Moon began his football career with New Hall Lane Temperance during the First World War and after the War played for Dick, Kerr’s XI in 1919 and Horwich RMI in 1921 before spending 1923-24 on the books of Preston North End where he didn’t make the first eleven. He returned to play for Dick, Kerr’s XI in 1924 from where he signed for Third Division (North) club Southport in October 1925, making his Football League debut at Doncaster Rovers on Boxing Day the same year, one of 4 matches he played in during the rest of the season, scoring in his final match at Accrington Stanley.
Moon drifted back into non league football playing for Dick, Kerr’s XI in 1926 and 1927 as well as for Burscough Rangers and Chorley, before joining Bradford City in September 1928, where he was a regular as The Bantams won the Third Division (North) Championship in 1928-29, but in the Second Division he lost his place in December 1929 and played just once more for The Bantams having scored 17 goals in 51 matches. He returned to play once again for Dick, Kerr’s XI in 1930 but joined Barrow that October, scoring 7 goals in 29 matches for The Bluebirds during a single season at Holker Street.
In July 1931 Moon moved to Wigan Borough, scoring once in 10 matches before the club withdrew from the League in November 1931, which effectively ended Moon’s League career, but he went on to play for Midland League side Frickley Colliery later that year, joining Lytham in 1934 and having a brief spell in Irish League football with Drumcondra in 1935 before his retirement.
