Description

Born in Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, full back Charlie Moore played for Hednesford Town before joining First Division Manchester United in May 1919, making his Football League debut in the first fixture of peacetime football after the end of the First World War, a 1-1 draw at Derby County in August 1919. After two seasons, a recurring injury forced Moore to stop playing football, but in September 1922 he had recovered and returned to play for United for a further eight years, including playing 40 games as they won promotion from The Second Division in 1924-25 as the division’s runners up. In 1926 Moore was part of United’s FA Cup semi final team beaten 3-0 by local rivals Manchester City at Bramall Lane. He made a total of 328 appearances for the club before retiring at the end of the 1929-1930 season after 5 seasons playing in the First Division after their promotion.  Moore never scored for United and was never selected for England, despite his reliability and consistency in his club’s lineup.
