Ballyclare, County Antrim born outside left William “Pal” Moore was a dashing winger and successful track sprinter, whose speed belied his strength and well built frame. Capped as a junior international while with Brantwood, he had great success with Glentoran during the Great War after joining them in 1914, claiming Irish League Championship and Irish Cup “double” winners medals in 1916-17 and a host of other honours. In February 1919 he played in an unofficial Victory international in a 2-1 defeat to Scotland at Ibrox Park.
Moore’s goalscoring ways drew the attentions of cross-channel clubs and in November 1920 he joined Scottish Division One side, Falkirk, after 48 goals in 166 appearances for The Glens. It was during his time at Brockville Park that he added a full Irish international cap to his collection, being selected against Scotland at Windsor Park, Belfast in March 1923. He formed a fine left-wing partnership with Billy Gillespie as the Irish were unlucky to lose out in front of 30,000 fans by a single goal. Despite his admirable performance that proved to be Moore’s only full international appearance.
In May 1924 he joined Division Three (North) club Lincoln City having scored 5 goals in 129 appearances for Falkirk, and he made his Football League debut the same month against New Brighton. After a little over a year with Lincoln, where he scored twice in 33 appearances, Moore returned to the Irish League to join Ards in July 1925. In March 1926 he was back at The Oval with Glentoran and despite his advancing years his renewed zest and continued effectiveness in front of goal drew praise from all quarters, adding another 38 goals in 100 appearances for The Glens before retiring in 1929.
