Sacriston, County Durham born inside right Jack Mordue began his football career with Sacriston United in 1924, playing for Esh Winning in 1925 and Langley Park in 1926 before joining Third Division (North) Hartlepools United, making his Football League debut against Southport in November 1927, playing alongside cousin(?) Billy Mordue, who scored both goals in a 2-1 win. A further Mordue, Tom “Tucker” (who had played for Hull City, Newcastle United and Sheffield United) also played for Hartlepool at the same time, although both Billy and Tom were born at Horden. Jack was most likely the son 0f England international Jackie Mordue, who also played for Sacriston United in his early days before Sunderland and Arsenal among others.

Jack scored 31 goals in 136 appearances for Hartlepools over five seasons before returning to non league football with Annfield Plain in 1932.
