Sketty, Swansea born right back Ernie Morley began his football career with local club Sketty, from where he was signed by Third Division (South) club Swansea Town in 1921, making his Football League debut against Watford that September. Once established in the first eleven he missed only 6 matches in 1924-25 as The Swans won the Third Division (South) Championship, and his reward was selection for the Wales international eleven, winning his first cap in their match against England at Vetch Field in February 1925, the first of his four caps awarded through to his final cap against Ireland at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham in February 1929.
After their promotion, Morley had two more seasons at Swansea before a move to join Second Division club Clapton Orient in the 1928 close season, having made 125 appearances for The Swans. However The O’s suffered relegation in his first season and he had two further seasons at Lea Bridge, making 81 appearances for Clapton Orient, before retiring from professional football to join Aberavon Harlequins in 1931.
