Description

Leith, Edinburgh born centre half David Morris began his football career with Newtongrange Star in 1917 and played for Arniston Rangers in 1918 before joining Scottish League Raith Rovers in 1919. Morris was a central figure as Raith Rovers achieved their highest ever League position in 1922, when they finished third in the Scottish First Division behind Champions Glasow Celtic and Auld Firm rivals Glasgow Rangers.

While at Raith he won 6 caps for Scotland being first selected in March 1923 in a 1-0 win over Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast, scoring on his second cap in a 2-0 win over Ireland at Parkhead a year later, and playing 4 more British Championship games through to the 2-0 win over England at Hampden Park in April 1925. He was also selected once for The Scottish League in a 1-0 win over The Irish League in October 1923.

In 1925 he transferred to Second Division Preston North End with Raith and Scotland colleague Alex James, and he made his Football League debut against South Shields on Boxing Day 1925, staying five years at Deepdale before transferring to Lancashire Combination club Chester in 1930 after 7 goals in 153 appearances. He returned to Scotland in 1931 to join Dundee United, making 18 appearances in 1931-32 before joining Leith Athletic in 1932, where he finished his career.
