Aston, Birmingham born centre half Frank Moss Jr was the son of Aston Villa 1920’s stalwart Frank Moss and began his football career with Worcester Nondescripts in the early 1930’s, playing for Worcester City in 1933. From there he joined First Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1935 and spent the first half of 1935-36 on the books at Molineux without making a first team appearance. He then signed for First Division club Sheffield Wednesday that November and made his Football League debut at Liverpool a year later in November 1936, playing 20 matches as Sheffield Wednesday suffered relegation at the season end. He played only 3 more Second Division matches the following season before joining Aston Villa in May 1938, where he was mainly a reserve until the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, playing 2 matches for Villa in September 1938 and January 1939.
His career was substantially impacted by the War years, during which he made 15 guest appearances for Southampton in 1944-45 among other football activities, before returning to Villa Park where he played in their FA Cup quarter final defeat to eventual winners Derby County in March 1946. When peacetime League football resumed in the autumn of 1946, Moss was a first team regular for eight seasons, and an ever present in 1949-50, eventually losing his place in September 1954, playing his last match for Aston Villa the following February before his retirement, by when he had scored 3 goals in 314 matches for Aston Villa.
His brother Amos played over 100 games  for Aston Villa, mainly immediately after World War Two, and his father Frank Senior was an Aston Villa stalwart who captained England.
