Description

Usworth, County Durham born right back Tommy Nevins began his football career with Sunderland District League club Washington Athletic, from where he signed for Second Division club Hull City in May 1907, making his Football League debut at Burnley in January 1908 when he replaced Jack McQuillan at left back.

After a three month spell again deputising for McQuillan early the next season, Nevins broke into the first team on a more regular basis in his favored right back berth in 1909-10, but he lost his place in 1913 and played his last match of 140 appearances for The Tigers in an FA Cup tie at Bury in January 1914. In the 1914 close season Nevins joined Blyth Spartans where he was a regular for one season and also played for West Stanley in 1915 before the onset of the First World War effectively ended his playing career.
