Description
Prudhoe, Northumberland born left back Joseph Nixon began his football career with hometown junior club Prudhoe Castle after the end of the First World War, from where he signed for Third Division (South) club Crystal Palace in 1921, making his Football League debut at Notts County two days after Christmas that year. Very much a fringe player during his six seasons at The Nest, he scored his only goal for Palace in a 1-1 draw at Hull City in October 1922, but he only got to 10 appearances for Crystal Palace in 1923-24, making in total 31 appearances for Crystal Palace before returning to play for Prudhoe Castle in the 1927 close season.
NB in the photograph he stands to the left with Crystal Palace team mate Jimmy Hamilton.
