Whitwick, Leicestershire born right back Micky Noon, who also played at left back and across the half back line, began his football career with Coalville Albion in the mid 1890’s, from where he signed for Second Division club Burton Swifts in February 1898, making his Football League debut against Darwen the same month. He played 41 matches for Burton over the next year before being signed by First Division club Aston Villa in March 1899, making his debut for Villa the following November, playing 15 matches as Aston Villa won the League Championship in 1900.
Never a regular at Villa, Noon played in two FA Cup semi finals as they lost to Sheffield United in 1901 and Bury in 1903, playing 16 matches as they finished runners up in the League Championship in 1902-03. Noon played his last match of 123 for Aston Villa in February 1906, having scored once, in a 2-1 win over Everton in October 1902.
Noon moved to Plymouth Argyle in the summer of 1906 and was a regular member of the first team during his only season with The Pilgrims, as well as serving as vice-captain. The Argyle handbook described him as “an artist of the first flight and a great general in every degree … his wonderful speed and ability must stand him good and in the best of company”. With Argyle facing severe financial difficulties he moved on to Southern League club Leyton in the 1907 close season. He then returned to play for Burton United, by now no longer in the Football League, and played for Coalville Town in 1908 before his eventual retirement.
