Description

Glasgow born outside right Duncan Ogilvie played junior football for St Ninian’s Thistle in 1929 and Alva Albion Rangers in 1930, from where he joined Motherwell in 1932. He was a big success at Fir Park, and was called up for Scotland, playing in a 1-1 draw with Austria at Hampden Park in November 1933. He was then signed by First Division Huddersfield Town in March 1936, making his Football League debut against Liverpool, and helping Huddersfield to a 3rd place finish in the League Championship, but returned to Motherwell before the end of the year in a swap deal for Willie MacFadyen in December 1936 after 4 goals in 28 appearances for The Terriers.

His career was severely interrupted by the Second World War, and in 1941 he left Motherwell and joined Falkirk, where he played until December 1946 when he signed for Hamilton Academical. He scored 4 goals in 15 appearances for Accies before joining Dundee United in the 1948 close season, where he made 28 appearances before retiring in 1950.

This photograph taken 17th September 1936 in a 2-2 draw at Hillsborough. Duncan Ogilvie is in the plain shirt.
