Description

Darlington, County Durham born left back George Page began his football career after the end of the First World War with Rise Carr, from where he joined Midland League club Doncaster Rovers in 1920. He was signed by Second Division club Barnsley in May 1921, making his Football League debut, and only appearance for The Tykes in a match at Bradford Park Avenue in March 1922. He joined Accrington Stanley that May and scored once in 33 appearances during their 1922-23 campaign, but again moved on, joining Ashington in July 1923. Again a regular at Portland Park, he scored twice in 40 appearances as Ashington finished eighth in the Third Division (North).

Moving to Lincoln City in July 1924, he completed a hat-trick of successive eighth place finishes in 1924-25 as Lincoln followed Accrington and Ashington that finish with Page again a regular performer. He stayed a further season at Sincil Bank, scoring 3 times in 68 appearances before joining Crewe Alexandra in June 1926. He scored once for The Railwaymen in 20 appearances during 1926-27, moving to Midland League York City in the 1927 close season, his final club before his eventual retirement. Of his 7 goals for his various clubs in League football, 5 were from the penalty spot.
