Description
Glasgow born winger John Paul began his senior football career with Hibernian in 1893 before joining First Division Derby County in 1894, making his Football League debut against Burnley in December 1894, scoring his first goals three days later with a brace in a 4-1 home victory over Sheffield United. He scored 4 times in 14 appearances during his debut season, including playing in Derby’s Test Match victory over Notts County at the end of the season. The next year he scored 4 times in 8 appearances as The Rams finished as runners up in the League Championship. However he spent 3 seasons as a fringe player at The Baseball Ground, scoring 9 times in 30 appearances in total before joining Southern League Bristol Rovers in 1898.
