Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire born left back Philip Pedlar began his football career with hometown Southern League club Merthyr Town, playing for Rhymney in 1921, from where he signed for Third Division (North) club Chesterfield in 1922, making his Football League debut against Ashington that October. He played 16 matches for The Spireites through to the end of the season and clearly impressed enough for First Division club Burnley to come in for his signature in the 1923 close season, but he spent two seasons at Turf Moor without making a break through into The Clarets’ first eleven.
Pedlar returned to Merthyr Town, by now a League club playing in the Third Division (South) in 1925, staying three seasons at Penydarren Park, and he was a near ever present in their 1926-27 campaign, missing only a single match, and only a handful of matches in 1927-28. After 6 goals in 89 appearances for The Martyrs he joined non league Ebbw Vale in 1928, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
