Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire born outside right Syd Peppitt began his senior football career with hometown First Division club Stoke City, making his Football League debut at Brentford in December 1936. He was very much a fringe player by the time of the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, by when he had scored 5 goals in 14 matches for The Potters, and during the War he played for Stoke and was also called up to the Territorial Army in Belfast where he guested for Linfield.
When League football resumed in 1946-47 he scored 12 goals in 29 matches as Stoke nearly won the First Division title, losing their must win match against Sheffield United 2-1. However he lost his regular place in The Potters’ line up in August 1949 and signed for Third Division (South) neighbours Port Vale in May 1950 after 29 goals in 106 matches for Stoke City. He had a single season with The Valiants, scoring 3 goals in 11 matches before moving to Worcester City in 1951, his last club before his eventual retirement.
