Crewe born outside right Frank Peters began his football career with Shropshire club Wellington St George’s in 1927 and joined the books of Coventry City in February 1928 without making a first team appearance for them. After a brief spell at Bilston United in 1928 he returned to Wellington St George’s in 1929 before signing for Second Division Charlton Athletic in June 1930, making his Football League debut against Bury the same October. After 7 goals in 29 appearces he was signed by Fulham in March 1932 but made only one appearance for The Cottagers, scoring in a 2-2 draw at Norwich City the same month.
In May 1933 he joined Swindon Town and was regular in their first team scoring consistently, finishing second top scorer in the club’s charts in each of his 3 seasons at The County Ground, notching 51 goals in 114 appearances before a move to Bristol City in May 1936. Described as “a reliable and consistent player and an asset to the attack… combines cleverly with his inside partner resulting in many goal openings”, he helped City to runners up in the Third Division (South) in 1937-38, narrowly missing out on promotion, but his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, by when he had scored 23 goals in 121 appearances for The Robins.
